My Review

“The Lego Movie” is the story of Emmet, an ordinary Lego figurine, who is drafted into saving the world from a tyrant who wants to conquer everything and in particular glue the entire Lego community together. This surprisingly entertaining action comedy film was well constructed by directors-screenwriters Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” 2009).

They instilled the project with great production values, colorful animation, a good message of teamwork for young people, and even some winsome music, such as the song “Everything is Awesome,” written by Shawn Patterson, and nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, the film’s sole Academy Award nod.

The cast includes Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Allison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, Shaquille O’Neal, Will Forte, Dave Franco, and Keegan-Michael Key.

“The Lego Movie” was a big hit at the box office for Lego System A/S, Warner Animation Group, Village Roadshow Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, Lin Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures. So far, it has spawned three sequels, two released in 2017 and “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” in 2019.
