My Review

“Bugsy Malone” is no doubt a one-of-a-kind motion picture. It is a British musical gangster film featuring only child actors, with singing voices dubbed in by adult performers. The talents of Jodie Foster and Scott Baio were on full display, with Foster becoming a big star the same year in a very different filmed called “Taxi Driver.”

Producer-director-screenwriter Alan Parker (“The Evacuees” 1975) and music writer Paul Williams made the movie very watchable indeed. Williams won the film’s sole Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Co-stars include John Cassisi, Florrie Dugger, Martin Lev, Andrew Paul, Jeffrey Stevens, and Bonnie Langford. “Bugsy Malone” was a modest success at the box office for Goodtimes Enterprises, Robert Stigwood Organisation, and Paramount Pictures.
