My Review

“The Rhinemann Exchange” is the story of a secret trade between the U. S. A. and Nazi Germany in World War II that involved the German need for diamonds for their rocket program and the Americans wanting gyroscopes for their bombers. Director Burt Kennedy and producer-teleplay author Richard Collins adeptly turned this 1974 Robert Ludlum novel into an exciting five-hour, three-part miniseries that aired on NBC in March, 1977.

The actors delivered great performances including Stephen Collins in the lead role of David Spaulding, the American spy in charge of the exchange who does not know that the Germans are to receive the diamonds. The all-star cast includes Lauren Hutton, Larry Hagman, Jose Ferrer, Claude Akins, Vince Edwards, John Huston, Roddy McDowell, Rene Auberjonois, Jeremy Kemp, Werner Klemperer, Tricia Noble, Gene Evans, Pedro Armendariz Jr., Len Birman, Ramon Bieri, John van Dreelen, Ben Wright, and John Hoyt.
