My Review

Nicholas Cage stars as a fictionalized version of himself in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” This film is well directed by Tom Gormican, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten, with Cage doing an excellent job of portraying himself. Cage was able to stay out of the way because Gormican made this a high quality action-comedy picture so the emphasis was on the story and not so much on Cage. A comparison that comes to mind is John Malkovich also playing himself in “Being John Malkovich” (1999), which was much more of a weird and outlandish dark comedy that was difficult to sink your teeth into.

The supporting cast was headed by Pedro Pascal, who did well playing opposite Cage, with the two displaying good chemistry. Others include Sharon Hogan, Tiffany Haddish, Ike Barinholtz, Allessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, Paco Leon, Demi Moore as his ex-wife, and Neil Patrick Harris as his agent. “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is a watchable independently produced film from Nicolas Cage’s own production company Saturn Films and Burr! Productions.
