My Review

“The Man from Snowy River” is an Australian western drama about a young man who obtains employment with a horse rancher, becomes involved with his daughter, clashes with other cowboys on the job, amongst some other horse opera melodrama. Director George T. Miller and screenwriter John Dixon have an entertaining film with a storyline that has a beginning, middle, and an end.

The cast includes Kirk Douglas (in dual roles as the Harrison Ranch owner and his prospector brother), Jack Thompson, Tom Burlinson, Sigrid Thornton, Lorraine Bayly, Terence Donovan, Tony Bonner, June Jago, Chris Haywood, Gus Mercurio, and Tommy Dysart as the Mountain Man. “The Man from Snowy River” did have success in theatrical release for Cambridge Productions, Edgley International, Snowy River Investment Pty. Ltd., The Hoyts Group, and 20th Century Fox.
