Robert De Niro stars as a man who moves in with his daughter’s family, and gets into a feud with his grandson after taking over the boy’s room in the comedy “The War with Grandpa.” This amusing, yet predictable, comic piece was put together by director Tim Hill (“Alvin and the Chipmunks” 2007) and screenwriters Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember.
De Niro has good chemistry with Oakes Fegley, the young actor who plays the grandson. Other cast members include Laura Marano as his granddaughter, Uma Thurman and Rob Riggle as the daughter and son-in-law, and Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, and Cheech Marin as De Niro’s friends.
“The War with Grandpa,” adapted from the 1984 novel of the same name by Robert Kimmel Smith, is winsome and watchable 94 minutes of independently produced entertainment.
