“Gran Turismo” is a sports drama that tells the real life story of how British teenager Jann Mardenborough transitioned from being a Gran Turismo video game player to professional race car driver. Director Neill Blomkamp (“Elysium” 2013) had his act together while constructing this film. It has an exciting storyline, great race car scenes, good acting, generally outstanding production values, and a well written screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. There is little down-side to “Gran Turismo.”
The cast did well in the performance department, starting with Archie Madekwe as Jann, David Harbour as his trainer, Orlando Bloom as the Nismo (Nissan) marketing executive, Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell Horner as his parents, as well as Darren Barnet, Josha Stradowski, Daniel Puig, Emelia Hartford, Sang Heon Lee, and Jamie Kenna.
“Gran Turismo” was very successful in the race for tickets at the box office for PlayStation Productions, 2.0 Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
