A 1986 made-for-television movie called “Stagecoach” is a decent remake of the 1939 western action film classic. Director Ted Post (“Magnum Force” 1973) and teleplay author James Lee Barrett did an outstanding job of updating the old story of passengers aboard a stagecoach who come under attack by Indians; many have secrets and life situations that complicate the plot.
The cast has a large number of big name talents that provide good chemistry: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, John Schneider, Elizabeth Ashley, Mary Crosby, Anthony Newley, Anthony Franciosa, Merritt Butrick, Jessi Colter, and June Carter Cash in a small part as Mrs. Pickett.
“Stagecoach” provides one hundred minutes of watchable entertainment, with Gary Graver in charge of the beautiful cinematography, filmed in several locations in picturesque Arizona. It originally aired in May, 1986, on the CBS television network, from executive producer Willie Nelson, Heritage Entertainment Inc., Plantation Productions, and Raymond Katz Productions.
