“A Fish Called Wanda” is a quirky comedy heist movie from director Charles Crichton. It was successful at the box office and received wide critical acclaim, winning the Best Actor Oscar for star Kevin Kline.
However, it is our view that “A Fish Called Wanda” is nothing more than a montage of silly skits, nonsensical dialogue, and numerous make-out scenes worthy of an eighth-grader. Foul language is sprinkled throughout the movie; not exactly a sign of huge talent from the director or the screenwriter, John Cleese. This is typical art house material.
The cast looks terrible in these performances, including John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, Michael Palin, Maria Aitken, Tom Georgeson, Patricia Hayes, Geoffrey Palmer, Mark Elwes, Stephen Fry, and Cynthia Cleese, daughter of John Cleese. Something is fishy about “A Fish Called Wanda” from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
