My Review

“The Chosen” is a television series whose subject is the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Director-creator Dallas Jenkins (“The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” 2017) has put together a unique view of New Testament Biblical events of Jesus’ life through personal experiences of people around him, set in the first century in Judea and Galilee. He uses events from the Biblical text with extrapolated scenes and dialogue that is easy to imagine really happened, due to his sensitivity to the nature of Christ.

Jonathan Roumie plays the lead role of Jesus; he seems to fit the bill as the Messiah of Israel who becomes the head of the Christian Church. The large supporting cast includes Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Paras Patel as Matthew, Noah James as Andrew, and Vanessa Benavente as Mary, Jesus’ mother. There are many others too numerous to mention here.

“The Chosen Season 4” is now showing in theaters. Streaming of Season 4 will be available on “thechosen.tv” after it’s theatrical run. This is the same platform that housed the first three seasons. It is a production of Angel Studios, with director Dallas Jenkins also serving as co-writer and co-producer. Jenkins is son of Jerry B. Jenkins, author (with Tim LaHaye) of the “Left Behind” book series.
