“Cousins” is a romantic comedy about two people whose uncle and mother marry, making them step-cousins. They become romantically involved, despite being married to other people. Director Joel Schumacher (“St. Elmo’s Fire” 1985) and screenwriter Stephen Metcalfe came up with an empty story billed as a romantic comedy that really has no comedy and not much romance. This vapid film has no life to it and is a tedious two hours of movie viewing.
The cast members at least delivered acceptable performances: Ted Danson, Isabella Rossellini, Sean Young, William Petersen, Lloyd Bridges, Norma Aleandro, Keith Coogan, Gina DeAngeles, Katherine Isabelle, and George Coe. The unwatchable “Cousins” was based on a 1975 French film “Cousin Cousine” and was a flop at the box office for Paramount Pictures.
