“War, Inc.” is a political action-comedy movie about a fictional Middle Eastern country that is run by an American corporation purely for profit. Unfortunately for the corporate entity, a local official is standing in the way of its total control and they send in a hitman to kill him. Director Joshua Seftel has a project on his hands that has no imagination or creativity, and not much resembling an action film or a comedy movie. The plot and storyline is disorganized, due to muddled direction by Seftel and a horribly written screenplay by John Cusack, Mark Leyner, and and Jeremy Pikser. The director and screenwriters seemed to be obsessed with discrediting President George W. Bush’s Middle East policies than anything else.
The performances from a normally talented cast are abysmal. This includes John Cusack, Hilary Duff, Marisa Tomei, Joan Cusack, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Ben Cross, Ned Bellamy, Montel Williams, and John McLaughlin as himself. Kingsley is particularly awful in his role as the corporate CEO. He earned a nomination for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actor. The dreadful and unwatchable “War, Inc.” was a complete failure at the box office for producer John Cusack and First Look Studios.
