My Review

Back in 1991, Julia Roberts starred in a spellbinding psychological thriller called “Sleeping with the Enemy.” This tightly written and even more tightly directed picture had very little down time in its 97 minutes, thanks to screenwriter Ronald Bass and director Joseph Ruben (“Dreamscape” 1984). It was all action and suspense from start to finish, following the story of a woman trying to escape the clutches of her abusive husband.

Roberts turned in this excellent performance early in her career; she had the audience identifying with her for the entire duration of the film. Julia has displayed quite a range as an actor over the years. Co-stars include Patrick Bergin as the deranged husband, Kevin Anderson as the sympathetic love interest, and Elizabeth Lawrence as her mother, as well as Harley Venton, Sandi Shackelford, Kyle Secor, Claudette Nevins, and Bonnie Johnson.

The watchable melodrama “Sleeping with the Enemy” was a big hit at the box office for 20th Century Fox.
