My Review

Legendary singers Ike and Tina Turner are vividly portrayed in the musical biopic “What’s Love Got to Do with It.” Director Brian Gibson and screenwriter Kate Lanier put together this outstanding movie that has riveting drama, marvelous musical numbers, and unforgettable acting performances. Gibson and Lanier adapted the story from “I, Tina: My Life Story,” the 1986 autobiography by Tina Turner and Kurt Loder.

Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne played the famous couple to critical acclaim, although both Turners had objections to some facts as presented in the film. At any rate, Bassett and Fishburne were both nominated for Oscars for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively. The supporting cast includes Khandi Alexander, Jenifer Lewis, Penny Johnson Jerald, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Chi McBride, Terrence Evans, James Reyne, Shevar Ross, Cora Lee Day, and Rob LaBelle as Phil Spector.

The very watchable “What’s Love Got to Do with It” was successful in theatrical release for Touchstone Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
