“How to Be a Latin Lover” is a movie comedy about a man who has spent most of his adult life married to a wealthy older woman, and then must learn to support himself when she divorces him. Director Ken Marino and screenwriters Chris Spain and Jon Zach put together a motion picture that barely looks like a comedy, but does have some truly funny comedy bits scattered throughout this dull and dreary assemblage of famous actors.
The cast includes Eugenio Derbez, Salma Hayek, Raphael Alejandro, Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell, Raquel Welch, Linda Lavin, Renee Taylor, Rob Riggle, Rob Huebel, Rob Corddry, McKenna Grace, Mather Zinkel, Michaela Watkins, Michael Cera, Ben Schwartz, Jeffrey Scott Basham, Noel Carabaza, Omar Chapparo, Jose Edwardo Derbez, Vadhir Derbez, and Weird Al Yankovic as himself. This was the final film appearance for Raquel Welch, whose big screen career began in 1964. She passed away in 2023 at the age of 82.
The mostly unwatchable “How to Be a Latin Lover” did have some success at the box office for producer Eugenio Derbez, 3Pas Studios, and Pantelion Films.
