“A Home of Our Own” is a drama-comedy film about a mother of six who gets fed up with life in Los Angeles and ends up in a small town in Idaho. Kathy Bates pleasantly dominates the screen in this movie. Undoubtedly one of the premier actors of our time, with a wide acting range, Bates easily fits into this G-rated family picture. Edward Furlong, fresh from his success as John Connor in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” in 1991, does quite well here as the oldest of six siblings.
Other cast members include Soon-Tek Oh as the helpful neighbor and Tony Campisi as the boss at work. The family is rounded out by child actors Clarrissa Lassig, Miles Feulner, Amy Sakasitz, Sarah Schaub, and T. J. Lowther. Director Tony Bill (“My Bodyguard” 1980) and screenwriter Patrick Sheane Duncan have made “A Home of Our Own” a very watchable film, unfortunately a flop at the box office for Polygram Film Entertainment, A & M Films, and Gramercy Pictures.
