My Review

“Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work” is a documentary film about the life and career of entertainer Joan Rivers. Producers-directors Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg followed her for fourteen months when Rivers was 75-76 years young. She experienced a drought in bookings for a time at the beginning of the filming, and ended with her winning “Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008.

Celebrity cameo appearances and interviews include Joan Rivers, Melissa Rivers, Don Rickles, Lily Tomlin, Bill Maher, Garry Shandling, Brad Garrett, Richard Belzer, Kathy Griffin, and Jeff Ross. The only thing to beware of is the numerous F-bombs, which Joan is famous for in her live act, but besides that, “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work” was entertaining and informative, released directly to video, with limited theatrical release, from Break Thru Films and IFC Films.
