My Review

“Tombstone” is a return to the traditional western motion pictures of old Hollywood, thanks to the talented director George P. Cosmatos (“Leviathan” 1989) and screenwriter Kevin Jarre. At the center of the picture is the friendship of Watt Earp (Kurt Russell) and Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), set in the midst of events such as the famous Gunfight at the O. K. Corral in 1880’s Arizona Territory.

The large and talented supporting cast behind Russell and Kilmer includes Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, Charlton Heston, Michael Biehn, Jason Priestley, Dana Delaney, Jon Tenney, Stephen Lang, Thomas Haden Church, Paula Malcomson, Lisa Collins, Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Zane, Terry O’Quinn, Frank Stallone, Buck Taylor, and Harry Carey Jr. in one of his final film roles. Wyatt Earp III, a fifth cousin of the famous Earp, had a small part in the film, playing outlaw Billy Claiborne. Veteran Hollywood superstar Robert Mitchum narrates the film.

The very watchable and entertaining “Tombstone” was successful at the box office for Hollywood Pictures, Cinergi Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company.
