My Review

Producer-director Tim Burton (“Beetlejuice” 1988) recruited numerous big name actors to star in his hilarious science fiction comedy picture “Mars Attacks!” This spoof of 1950’s scifi B films was expertly assembled by Burton with the screenplay by Jonathan Gems, based on some Topps trading cards that began in 1962.

The cast is headed by Jack Nicholson and Glenn Close as the U. S. President and First Lady, with Annette Benning, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rod Steiger, Natalie Portman, Jim Brown, Christina Applegate, Joe Don Baker, Pam Grier, Paul Winfield, Jack Black, Tommy Bush, Lisa Marie Smith, John Finnegan, Rance Howard, Lukas Haas, Tom Jones as himself, and Sylvia Sidney in her final big screen role in a career that began in 1927.

“Mars Attacks!” is a fun and watchable movie about an attempted invasion of Earth from Tim Burton Productions and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was popular in theatrical release, but only made enough money to cover production and advertising expenses.
