The “Star Trek” film franchise keeps humming along at warp speed with the eighth in the series. “Star Trek: First Contact” features Jean-Luc Picard’s Enterprise traveling back in time to the 21st Century to prevent the Borg from interfering with human civilization’s first contact with alien species, which are the Vulcans.
First-time director Jonathan Frakes did an excellent job of shepherding the large cast and crew and the complex plot to form this exciting motion picture. The actors from TNG star in their second film and the first movie without Bill Shatner and his original Enterprise crew: Patrick Stewart as Picard, Jonathan Frakes as Riker, Brent Spiner as Data, LeVar Burton as Geordi, Michael Dorn as Worf, Gates McFadden as Crusher, and Marina Sirtis as Troi.
Co-stars include Alfre Woodward, James Cromwell, Neal McDonough, Dwight Schultz, Michael Horton, Patti Yasutake, and Alice Krige as the Borg Queen. Cameos are made by “Star Trek: Voyager” crew members Robert Picardo as the Doctor and Ethan Phillips as Neelix. “Star Trek: First Contact” was a smashing hit at the box office for producer Rick Berman and Paramount Pictures.
