My Review

“Cop Land” is a suspense-filled, noir crime drama movie about a small town sheriff in northern New Jersey who must ignore the corruption of many of the NYPD officers who reside there, until he is approached for help from an internal affairs investigator from New York City.

Viewers can cut the tension with a knife due to expert direction by and superb writing by James Mangold (“Walk the Line” 2005). The ensemble cast is headed by Sylvester Stallone in one of the best performances of his career. Others include Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Annabella Sciorra, Michael Rapaport, Noah Emmerich, Cathy Moriarty, John Spencer, Frank Vincent, Edie Falco, John Ventimiglia, Paul Herman, Mel Gorham, Victor Williams, Paul Calderon, Vincent Laresca, Arthur Nascarella, Malik Yoba, Method Man, Deborah Harry as a bartender, and Tony Sirico in a photograph only.

“Cop Land” is good old-fashioned fun and watchable entertainment, successful in theatrical release for Woods Entertainment and Miramax Films.
