The drama of “Star Trek” continues in the ninth film of the series – “Star Trek: Insurrection.” As the title implies, Captain Jean-Luc Picard disobeys Starfleet Command’s orders and travels across the galaxy to rescue Data from an undercover mission. This is Jean-Luc at his very naughtiest!
Director Jonathan Frakes (“Star Trek: First Contact” 1996) and screenwriter Michael Piller have created an absorbing drama that could have been a two-part episode of TV’s “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Frakes allows for some character development here, more so than in the original series. Jerry Goldsmith penned the fantastic original musical score.
The stars include TNG cast members in their third of four film appearances: Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Brent Spiner as Data, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn as Worf, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi. Co-stars include F. Murray Abraham, Donna Murphy, Anthony Zerbe, Gregg Henry, Daniel Hugh Kelly, Michael Welch, Mark Deacons, and Stephanie Niznik.
“Star Trek: Insurrection” was successful at the box office for producer Rick Berman and Paramount Pictures.
