My Review

“The Waterboy” is a sports comedy where Adam Sandler plays Bobby Boucher, a college football team’s waterboy who is discovered to have all-star talents himself. Director Frank Coraci (“The Wedding Singer” 1998) and screenwriters Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler unfortunately fumbled the ball during production and come up with a dud of a motion picture. You know the film is in trouble when Sandler’s funniest line is: “Mama says alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth but no tooth brush.”

Co-stars include Kathy Bates, Jerry Reed, Henry Winkler, Fairuza Balk, Peter Dante, Clint Howard, Rob Schneider, Kevin Farley, and Frank Coraci as Bobby Boucher’s father. Numerous NFL and broadcast personalities make appearances, like Lynn Swann, Jimmy Johnson, Dan Fouts, Dan Patrick, Brent Musburger, among others.

The inane and obnoxious and insulting “comedy” “The Waterboy” was a big hit at the box office for Touchstone Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, and The Walt Disney Company. Adam Sandler was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor, and The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards gave him the Most Annoying Fake Accent Awards of 1998.
