My Review

“Elizabethtown” is an engrossing drama about a young man who attends his father’s funeral right after he gets laid off from his job. Producer-director-screenwriter Cameron Crowe (“Vanilla Sky” 2001) actually put together an intelligent and thoughtful drama, despite a big thumbs down from most critics. He obtained good performances by the actors.

Orlando Bloom did quite well in the lead role; he usually delivers when the part calls for it. The cast also includes Kirsten Dunst, Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, Judy Greer, Jessica Biel, Bruce McGill, Paul Schneider, Loudon Wainwright III, Paula Deen, Jed Rees, Dan Biggers, and Emily Rutherfurd, who was later gain fame as “New Christine” in CBS’s “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (2006-2010).

The very watchable “Elizabethtown” made a small profit at the box office for producers Tom Cruise, Paula Wagner, and Cameron Crowe, Cruise/Wagner Productions, and Paramount Pictures.
