“Captive State” is a science fiction film about humans rebelling against aliens that have taken over the Earth, particularly Chicago. This latest mediocre version of an overused storyline in the past in movies was sloppily directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” 2011) from a terrible screenplay by Wyatt and Erica Beeney.
The actors seemed to be sluggish in their delivery, including John Goodman, Ashton Sanders, Jonathan Majors, Colson Baker, Vera Farmiga, Alan Ruck, and Kevin Dunn. This unwatchable independent movie “Captive State” was a huge flop at the box office for Focus Features and Lionsgate. Apparently movie audiences did not want to be held in a state of captivity in theaters.
