“Rogue Agent” is a British mystery thriller that tells the true story of a conman who convinces people that he is a secret agent for the government, “recruits” them into the spy business of MI6, and then bilks them out of their money. This seamless suspense story has more twists and turns than a pretzel, with great acting and marvelous writing. Kudos to directors Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn in their feature film debut. They also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bronner, adapted from his unpublished article “Chasing Agent Freegard.”
James Norton and Gemma Arterton were spellbinding as the antagonist and the protagonist, respectively. Unbelievable chemistry as well. The supporting cast includes Marisa Abela, Sarah Goldberg, Shazad Latif, Jimmy Akingbola, Freya Mavor, Julian Barratt, and Edwina Findley as Special Agent Sandy Harland.
The very watchable “Rogue Agent” was surprisingly unsuccessful at the box office for Rabbit Track Pictures, Great Point Media, The Development Partnership, Night Train Media, and distributed by IFC Films and AMC+.
