Bruce Willis’ considerable talents cannot save “Surrogates” from getting a thumbs down review. This science fiction movie, about a future in which people use robots operated from home to live their daily lives, has plenty of action sequences, but is told with an uneven storyline thanks to director Jonathan Mostow (“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” 2003) and screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris. It was adapted from the comic book series of the same name by Robert Venditti.
The supporting cast behind Willis includes James Cromwell, Ving Rhames, Rosamund Pike, Radha Mitchell, Jack Noseworthy, James Francis Ginty, MIchael Cudlitz, Helena Mattsson, and Devin Ratray, the former child actor well known as Buzz McCallister of the “Home Alone” series.
The unwatchable mess “Surrogates” from Touchstone Pictures and The Walt Disney Company received lukewarm attendance at the box office.
