“The Son” is a drama film about a divorced couple who are having problems with their emotionally troubled 17-year-old son. This solid drama has some good performances from the cast, especially Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Zen McGrath in the top roles. Excellent direction by Florian Zeller kept this project on track, with a well-written screenplay by Zeller and Christopher Hampton. It is based on the stage play “Le Fils” by Zeller.
The supporting cast includes Vanessa Kirby, George Cobell, Hugh Quarshie, and Anthony Hopkins in a small part as Jackman’s father. The very watchable “The Son” was not a big success in theatrical release for Film4 Productions, Ingenious Media, Embankment Films, See-Saw Films, and Sony Pictures Classics.
