My Review

“Battlefield Earth” is undoubtedly one of the worst films to come out of Hollywood in years. A confusing plot, ridiculous dialogue, terrible costumes and makeup, and bad acting are just a few attributes of this stinker. Even the cinematography is atrocious; many scenes were filmed at odd angles.

The man in charge is producer John Travolta, who cast himself as the star of the show. Director Roger Christian and screenwriters Corey Mandell and J. D. Shapiro adapted the film from the 1982 science fiction novel of the same name by L. Ron Hubbard. The film is a story about a rebellion against the Psychlos, who have ruled Earth for one thousand years. With the bad makeup jobs, these aliens resemble ugly Klingons!

Co-stars include Barry Pepper, Forest Whitaker, Kim Coates, Richard Tyson, Sabine Karsenti, Michael Byrne, and Kelly Preston, AKA Mrs. John Travolta. “Battlefield Earth” was a bomb at the box office for producer John Travolta, JTP Films, Morgan Creek Productions, Franchise Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Battlefield Earth” was nominated for a whopping twelve Golden Raspberry Awards (the Razzies), winning ten, including Worst Picture of the Decade, Worst “Drama” of Our First Twenty Five Years, and Worst Screen Couple, the winner being John Travolta and anyone sharing the screen with him.
