My Review

A mediocre version of “The Wizard of Oz” came out in 1925, the first full-length silent feature film adapted from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Producer-director-screenwriter Larry Semon did a terrible job at the helm of the movie, with sloppy direction and bad writing. Semon cast himself as the Scarecrow, another blunder on his part.

The cast includes Dorothy Dwan as Dorothy, Oliver Hardy as the Tin Man, Curtis McHenry as the Cowardly Lion, Charles Murray as the Wizard of Oz, Bryant Washburn, Mary Carr, Josef Swickard, Frank Alexander, Virginia Pearson, and Otto Lederer. “The Wizard of Oz” was poorly received by critics and the public alike, a flop at the box office for Chadwick Pictures.
