My Review

“Star Trek Nemesis” is the tenth in the film series that began with “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” in 1979, and the fourth featuring “The Next Generation” cast. The story has Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) discovering he has a clone after the Enterprise travels to the planet Romulus to negotiate a peace treaty with the Romulans.

The rest of the cast is present and accounted for: Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Michael Dorn as Worf, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi. Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher and Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan make cameo appearances. Kate Mulgrew is no longer lost, and is now Admiral Kathryn Janeway. Other cast members include Tom Hardy, Ron Perlman, Dina Meyer, John Berg, Jude Ciccolella, Shannon Cochran, Alan Dale, and Stuart Baird. Majel Barrett, the First Lady of Star Trek and widow of Gene Roddenberry, makes her final “appearance” as the voice of the Enterprise computer. She passed away in 2008 in Beverly Hills.

“Star Trek Nemesis” was a disappointment at the box office for Paramount Pictures. This prompted Paramount to scrap another sequel and instead opted for a complete reboot of the franchise in 2009 with “Star Trek.”
