My Review

Executive producer John Carpenter continues his low-brow style of filmmaking with “Halloween Ends.” This thirteenth film in the series that began in 1978 with “Halloween” supposedly concludes the saga of serial killer Michael Myers, who has been on killing sprees for these many 13 episodes. “Halloween Ends” is certainly faithful to the entire series, featuring stabbings, killings, slashing, torture, gore, bloody sets, severed limbs, etc.

The cast is headed by Jamie Lee Curtis, who survived the 1978 Myers massacre. She returns for this gorefest, only to find that another killer, played by Rohan Campbell, has fallen in love with her granddaughter, portrayed by Andi Matichak. Such an original storyline! Other co-stars include Kyle Richards, Joanne Baron, Michael Barbieri, Michael O’Leary, Omar Dorsey, and James Jude Courtney as Michael Myers. Also starring is Will Patton, reprising his 1978 role as deputy sheriff Frank Hawkins.

“Halloween Ends” is sloppy filmmaking, lazy directing, bad acting, and lack of good production values. Credit not only goes to Carpenter, the creator of the series, but also to director David Gordon Green, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Brad Logan, Chris Berier, and Danny McBride. However, there is always a market for this type of motion picture, as it was successful at the box office, adding cash to the coffers of executive producers John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis, Rough House Pictures, Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions, Miramax, and Universal Pictures.
