Martin Short gives one of his Saturday Night Live characters a starring role in a feature motion picture called “Jiminy Glick in Lalawood.” The story has movie critic Glick involved in a murder case while attending the Toronto Film Festival. Director Vadim Jean (“One More Kiss” 1999) and screenwriters Martin Short, Michael Short, and Paul Flaherty did a horrible job, with disengaged directing and terrible writing. The results are a complete cinematic disaster.
Martin Short was bogged down in heavy body makeup playing the morbidly obese movie critic and celebrity interviewer. This was for the entire film and not just for a seven minute SNL skit. His co-stars include Jan Hooks, Linda Cardellini, Janeane Garofalo, John Michael Higgins, and Elizabeth Perkins. Celebrity cameos include Rob Lowe, Kurt Russell, Sharon Stone, Kiefer Sutherland, William Dafoe, Kevin Kline, Whoopi Goldberg, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steve Martin, Susan Sarandon, Forest Whitaker, among others.
The very unwatchable “Jiminy Glick in Lalawood” was a huge bomb at the box office for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
