My Review

Tom Selleck delivers a thoughtful performance as Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower during the days preceding the D-Day landings at Normandy beach in France on June 6, 1944. The movie depicts the difficult decisions made by “Ike” and the inner workings of the Supreme Allied Expeditionary Force headquarters.

“Ike: Countdown to D-Day” benefited from excellent direction by Robert Harmon and skillfully written teleplay by Lionel Chetwynd. The supporting cast behind Selleck includes Ian Mune as Winston Churchill, Timothy Bottoms as Ike’s chief of staff, James Remar as Gen. Omar Bradley, Gerald McRaney as Gen. George Patton, Bruce Phillips as UK Gen. Bernard Montgomery, George Shevtsov as French Gen. Charles DeGaulle, and Mike Rose and Carole Seay as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mum.

“Ike: Countdown to D-Day” is a very watchable and very informative made-for-television movie that first aired on the A&E cable network on May 31, 2004.
