My Review

“The Life and Death of Peter Sellers” is an interesting look at the life and times of the famous comedic actor. Geoffrey Rush delivered an exemplary performance as the talented and troubled Sellers, winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. This was one of nine Emmy wins out of 16 nomination for the made-for-television film.

Director Stephen Hopkins (“Predator 2” 1990) and teleplay writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who adapted this project from the 1994 book by Roger Lewis, have created a good biopic, giving the audience a glimpse into Sellers’ private life, goings-on at movie sets, and loads of celebrity depictions.

They include Charlize Theron as Britt Ekland (the second Mrs. Sellers), John Lithgow as Blake Edwards, Sonia Aquino as Sophia Loren, Stanley Tucci as Stanley Kubrick, Nigel Havers as David Niven, Joseph Long as Carlo Ponti, and Heidi Klum as Ursula Andress. Other people who populate the picture include Emily Watson, Miriam Margolyes, Peter Vaughn, Stephen Fry, Henry Goodman.

The watchable “The Life and Death of Peter Sellers” was aired on HBO in 2004, a co-production of HBO Films and BBC Films.
