Independent filmmaker Mad Matthewz turned out an interesting comedy-drama called “Planet Brooklyn.” It tells the story of two friends who avoid work at all costs, but soon realize that this philosophy doesn’t work in real life.
The two stars, Ishmael Butler and Bonz Malone, do well in the leading roles. The supporting cast includes Reg E. Cathy (the BBQ ribs restaurant owner in TV’s “House of Cards”), Michael C. Maronna (Jeff McCallister of “Home Alone” 1990 and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” 1992), and veteran actress Hope Clarke of stage, screen, and television. Others include Stephanie Berry, Adrian Martinez, Andre Royo, Stu Large Riley, David Anzuelo, Silvestre Rasuk, Roberta Wallach, and Anita Kopacz.
“Planet Brooklyn” was originally titled “Men Without Jobs.” This independent film from Mad Matthewz made no money in theatrical release, and is the only feature-length movie so far to be directed and written by Mattewz.
