My Review

“The Upside of Anger” is an engrossing romantic comedy-drama from director-screenwriter Mike Binder (“Fourplay” 2001). Joan Allen plays a woman who must deal numerous problems, including her husband running off with another woman, having four daughters around the house, and more.

Binder made a film that takes a realistic look at someone dealing with trauma. He got a fine performance from Allen in the lead, with a supporting cast that includes Kevin Costner as a gentleman caller, and Alicia Witt, Keri Russell, Erika Christensen, and Evan Rachel Wood as her daughters. The cast is rounded out by Mike Binder, Tom Harper, Danny Webb, Suzanne Bertish, David Firth, Stephen Greif, and Arthur Penhallow.

“The Upside of Anger” is an independently produced film from Media 8 Entertainment and New Line Cinema, not terribly successful at the box office.
