My Review

The Best Picture of 2005 is…..”Crash,” probably one of the most skillfully crafted motion pictures of all time. Producer-director Paul Haggis wove together several storylines to form the film, winning three Oscars.

Haggis co-wrote the screenplay with Robert Oresco, for which they won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. The third Academy Award went to Hughes Winborne for Best Film Editing, especially important in a picture like this.

The cast includes Brendan Fraser and Sandra Bullock as the Los Angeles District Attorney and his wife who get their fancy SUV stolen. Ryan Phillippe, Matt Dillon, Don Cheadle, Jennifer Esposito, and Keith David are all LAPD officers. Others in on the fun are Tony Danza, Daniel Dae Kim, Marina Sirtis, Loretta Devine, Larenz Tate, Chris Bridges, Terrence Howard, Thandie Newton, Michael Pena, Shaun Toub, Beverly Todd, et al.

“Crash” had three other Oscar nods, including Best Original Song (“In the Deep”), Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Matt Dillon. It was successful at the box office for producers Don Cheadle and Paul Haggis and Lionsgate Films.
