My Review

“Stranger Than Fiction” is an off-beat drama-comedy-fantasy film where Will Ferrell portrays a man who one day starts hearing a voice narrating his every move. He finds out that the voice belongs to a famous author, and the strange comedy and drama proceeds from there. Director Marc Forster (“Monster’s Ball” 2001) somehow makes this story work, thanks to his expert direction, good actors, and a marvelous screenplay by Zach Helm. The balance between drama, comedy, and fantasy is very delicately crafted by Forster.

The supporting cast behind Ferrell includes Oscar winners Linda Hunt, Emma Thompson, and Dustin Hoffman, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Queen Latifah, Tony Hale, Tom Hulce, and Kristen Chenoweth. The very watchable “Stranger Than Fiction” was only a modest hit at the box office for Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Releasing.
