My Review

Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick have some good old fashioned Christmas fun in “Deck the Halls.” The famous pair play a car salesman and a dentist, respectively, who compete for their town’s unofficial position as “The Christmas Guy.” Their feud escalates as the film progresses with some comedic results.

The chemistry between DeVito and Broderick, along with other aspects of this picture, was well managed by director John Whitesell (“Calendar Girl” 1993). The supporting cast is headed by Kristen Davis and Kristen Chenoweth as the wives, and includes Fred Armisen, Ryan Devlin, Garry Chalk, Kal Penn, Zak Santiago, and Jorge Garcia, a regular on ABC’s “Lost” (2004-2010) and several years before becoming a regular on CBS’s “Hawaii 5-0” (2013-2020).

Despite the best efforts of the all-star cast, director John Whitesell, and screenwriters Matt Corman, Chris Ord, and Don Rhymer, Regency Enterprises, and 20th Century Fox, “Deck the Halls” was a big flop at the box office in the holiday season of 2006.
