Tom Selleck goes into his fourth made-for-television movie based on Robert B. Parker’s novels with “Jesse Stone: Sea Change.” Continuity is the name of the game as this motion picture retains all of the atmospherics and film noir feel of the first three, thanks to director Robert Harman and teleplay author Ronni Kern.
Selleck is also a major factor as he seems to revel in his portrayal of the LAPD homicide detective turned East Coast small town police chief. He has found his best role since “Magnum, P. I.” of the 1980’s. Other returning cast member include Kohl Sudduth as Luther Simpson, William Devane as Dr. Dix, Vito Rezza as Anthony D’Angelo, and Saul Rubinek as Hasty Hathaway.
Viola Davis bows out as Stone’s office manager Molly Crane, appearing in one last scene. She is replaced by Kathy Baker as Rose Gammon. Guest stars include Rebecca Pidgeon, Sean Young, Mika Boorem, Nigel Bennett, and James Preston Rogers. “Jesse Stone: Sea Change” was broadcast in March, 2007, on the CBS television network.
