“Into the Wild” is the true story of a young man who travels across America for two years, from his home in Virginia and college in Georgia to the wilds of Alaska. Sean Penn did an excellent job of producing, directing, and writing the screenplay, adapted from the 1996 non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer. It tells of the adventures of Christopher McCandless as he meets different people in his travels.
Emile Hirsch delivers a stunning performance as a man searching for something, maybe peace in his life. William Hurt and Marcia Gay Harden play his parents, Jena Malone is his sister, and Hal Holbrook, Vince Vaughn, Kristen Stewart, and Zach Galifianakis portray people he meets along the way.
“Into the Wild” was nominated for two Oscars: Holbrook for Best Supporting Actor and Jay Cassidy for Best Film Editing. It did have some box office success for River Road Entertainment and Paramount Vantage.
