My Review

“The Astronaut Farmer” is the story of a former astronaut turned Texas rancher who constructs a rocket in his barn with the intent of launching into outer space. The ridiculous plot based on a far-fetched premise makes this film completely uncredible and therefore difficult to watch.

Director Michael Polish (“Northfork” 2003) has come up with bad movies like this before. He seems to have his head in the clouds. What ever the problem, he co-wrote this project with his brother Mark Polish, with whom he also co-produced the film. The seem to have enough money to burn, as this was a flop at the box office for Polish Brothers Construction and Warner Bros. Pictures.

The cast did their jobs well enough, which includes Billy Bob Thornton, Virginia Madsen, Bruce Dern, Bruce Willis, Rick Overton, Max Thieriot, Tim Blake Nelson, Jon Gries, J. K. Simmons, with Jay Leno and weatherman Dallas Raines appearing as themselves. Best to skip this horrible dud, “The Astronaut Farmer,” which disintegrated upon reentry into the earth’s atmosphere and bombed big-time at the box office.
