Special effects rule the day in the action picture “Transformers.” Executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay (“Pearl Harbor” 2001) have combined computer animation with live action is this exciting film based on the Hasbro toy line and the 1980’s cartoon series.

The story of “Transformers” tells of an interplanetary war between the peaceful Autobots and the evil Decepticons, who have moved to Earth and have involved humans. Both sides are trying to find the AllSpark, which will help its possessor to gain dominance in the intergalactic conflict.

The voice cast includes actors Peter Cullen, Robert Foxworth, and Hugo Weaving. Live action personnel includes Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Bernie Mac, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, and Jon Voight as the Secretary of Defense. The U. S. military and General Motors supplied numerous vehicles, adding realism to the movie.

The tightly written screenplay by Robert Orci and Alex Kurtsman and Bay’s expert hand at the directorial helm keep the action moving at a good pace. throughout the two-hour plus duration of “Transformers,” a fun and very watchable picture for all ages from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures.
