My Review

“Mad Money” is a terrible heist comedy-drama picture about three women who plot to smuggle cash out of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank where they work. The premise is a bit far-fetched, in a high-security environment like this one, but, as Johnny Carson used to say, “If you buy the premise, you buy the bit.”

Director Callie Khouri (“Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” 2002) and screenwriter Glenn Gers put together a movie with some laughs here and there, and mostly drama to see not if, but when, the girls would get caught.

The cast did fairly well in the performance department, with Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, and Katie Holmes starring as the three principals. Others include Ted Danson, Roger Cross, Stephen Root, J. C. MacKenzie, Christopher McDonald, Finesse Mitchell, Bryan Massey, and Adam Rothenberg. The unwatchable independent production of “Mad Money” was a big flop in theatrical release.
