My Review

“Defiance” is the story of four Polish Jewish brothers leading a resistance movement against the Nazi German Army in World War II in Belarus. Producer-director Edward Zwick (“Legends of the Fall” 1994) created a powerful story in this streamlined and focused film, for which he co-wrote the screenplay with Clayton Frohman. It was adapted from the 1993 book “Defiance; The Bielski Partisans” by Nechama Tec.

The four Bielski brothers were portrayed by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, and George MacKay. Very good acting here. The supporting cast includes Alexa Davalos, Allan Corduner, Mark Feuerstein, Tomas Arana, Jacob Koman, among others. “Defiance” was a modest hit in theatrical release for Paramount Pictures.
