A series of improbable events make up the entire plot of “Eagle Eye.” But director D. J. Caruso (“Disturbia” 2007) has the movie going at such a fast pace that the audience doesn’t have time to stop and think about the stupidity of what they are watching.
The sloppily written screenplay by John Glenn, Travis Adam Wright, Dan McDermott, and Hillary Seitz has the film’s star, Shia LaBeouf, following the instructions from a mystery woman, over his cellphone, which turns out to be the voice of Julianne Moore. Another woman, played by Michelle Monahan, also becomes involved. Unbelievably, the whole thing mushrooms into a major national security crisis.
The supporting cast includes Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, Anthony Mackie, Ethan Embry, Billy Bob Thornton, and Cameron Boyce. The film was a moderate hit at the box office for executive producer Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Pictures, K/O Paper Products, and Paramount Pictures. “Eagle Eye” can only be a watchable motion picture if you leave your thinking cap behind.
