My Review

Great writing and stunning performances keep the audience engaged throughout the nearly two hours of “Doubt.” The conflict between the main characters, Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius Beauvier, principle of a Catholic school, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Father Brendan Flynn, priest of the adjoining Catholic church, is totally absorbing and engrossing from start to finish.

Amy Adams as Sister James and Viola Davis as Mrs. Miller also deliver. Oscar nominations went to the four actors, and another nod to screenwriter John Patrick Shanley for his adaptation of his own 2004 play “Doubt: A Parable.” Amazingly, Shanley also directed this gem. Co-stars include Joseph Foster and Alice Drummond.

There is no “Doubt” that this is a very watchable movie from Miramax Films and Scott Rudin Productions, a modest hit at the box office.
