My Review

Producer-director Ron Howard (“Cocoon” 1985) followed up his big hit from 2006, “The Da Vinci Code.” with another conspiracy-laden project called “Angels & Demons.” This film is more action-oriented and very slickly produced. It has Tom Hanks returning as Harvard professor Robert Langdon, this time running around the city of Rome with cohorts trying to prevent an attack against Vatican City by the Illuminati.

People’s enjoyment of this movie will depend upon Johnny Carson’s old adage that “If you buy the premise, you’ll buy the bit.” It would appear that many bought Howard’s and original author Dan Brown’s conspiracy theories, as “Angels & Demons” was very successful at the box office. Ronnie Howard and the execs at Columbia Pictures must have been very grateful.

The supporting cast includes Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard, Ayelet Zurer, Pierfrancesco Favino, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Thure Lindhardt, David Pasquesi, and Rance Howard, brother of the producer-director. Lots of employment for European actors.
