My Review

Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall in “The Equalizer 3.” Director Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day” 2001) and screenwriter Richard Wenk have kept the formulaic McCall vigilantism, this time in a new setting in a small town in southern Italy. McCall discovers that his new Italian friends are being intimidated by a group of thugs call the Camorra, a Mafia-type gang, and sets out to free them from their control. Fuqua keeps the action going with a good pace for the 109 minute movie, with few slow segments.

Washington’s co-star is Dakota Fanning, who seems to hold her own in a leading role in a major motion picture for the first time. She has had numerous roles in big films after an early career as a child actress on the big screen, but none of them was a major part. Dakota Fanning is on her way to major stardom. The supporting cast includes David Denman, Sonia Ammar, Remon Girone, Gaia Scodellaro, Andrea Scarduzio, Andrea Dodero, Salvatore Ruocco, Alessandro Pess, and Bruno Bilotta.

Cinematographer Robert Richardson did an outstanding job in filming in the photogenic location of the Amalfi Coast of Italy, with some location shoots in Naples and Rome. The very watchable second sequel and final segment (after 2014 and 2018) “The Equalizer 3” has done well at the box office for producers Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
